The pigs influence on history, its more than just farming (pt 1)

Pigs have been domesticated for over 11,000 years! Thats a bunch of history to cover!

Not much happened from 11,000 bc to 8,000bc but in the early Neolithic (8,000 bc) Pigs played a very important part in Chinese culture and Chinese agriculture. Pigs were used as garbage disposals and their manure was used to fertilize the nutrient poor soil. They were a cultural symbol of wealth and being lazy. Finally they were used in a variety of rituals.

Around 3000 bc the pig was a central component of Mesopotamian farming. They had a nutrient poor diet but pigs provided slightly more nutrients. Also Egypt used a variety of pig products to enhance their cooking.

At about 327 bc Alexander the great used pigs in war to scare the Indian war elephants. (Their squeals were so loud that the elephants were.

At around 240 BCE the romans copied the Greeks and used their war pigs against war elephants (at a larger scale than the Greeks.) these pigs were set on fire to squeal louder and to run around in their pain. This was even more effective then the Greeks. However a hundredth as ethical.

Piggy Powers

Super senses: Pigs have both super smell and super hearing. They use their smell not only to search for and defeat evil food but to find side kicks (mates)! They can even use their sense of smell to “see” through the ground and find food. They have a hearing range of 42 hertz to 40500 hertz! Mere humans have a hearing range of 20 hertz to 20,000 hertz. So their upper hearing range is more than double that of humans! In addition they have highly sensitive hearing. So they can hear more stuff than we can. (Thats why you shouldn’t make loud noises around pigs.)

Cloning (this is sort of a stretch): Thanks to the pigs adaptability people put 10 pigs on an island then in a year they would come back to an entire farm worth of pigs. Then they would make a farm out of the pigs. Pigs have the ability to drastically increase their population because of 2 reasons. As mentioned before they are very adaptive creatures and they have a willingness to breed.

Super (digging) strength: Pigs have snouts reinforced with cartilage that gives them the ability to dig quickly. First they smell the food then they dig too it.

Minor super powers

Super intellect: According to studies it is likely that pigs are smarter than dogs.

Sonic scream: Pigs can squeal at 120 decibels. For reference, that’s louder than a jack hammer!

Five facts about the mother pigs.

Did you know mother pigs sing to their piglets when they’re feeding? Scientists think they do this to regulate milk production to make sure there are no milk hogs.

An average pig has a litter of 11. The recorded record is 17. However this is all I could find so it could be higher.

A mother pig can produce 30 ounces of milk a day. It is similar to cows milk but more watery and higher in fat content.

Pigs are very protective around their babies due to being a prey animal. So don’t aproach.

The final fact is that mother pigs will adopt piglets!
